California SD-WAN Pricing
A California SD-WAN deal is really a multi-site negotiation. The per-site rate that looks reasonable at two locations is the number you will be paying at twenty, so model the estate you expect rather than the one you have.
What actually sets a California SD-WAN rate
The overlay and the underlay are separate purchases and providers often quote them as one. In California the saving usually comes from replacing expensive private circuits with ordinary broadband underneath, so bid the circuits as hard as you bid the platform.
How the bid runsGetting real numbers out of California carriers
You are not shopping a catalogue, you are running a small auction. The California carriers that can serve the location submit what they are willing to do, you read the spread, and you counter. Nothing about the process obliges you to accept any of it.

Term length is the biggest single lever and the easiest to get wrong. A longer commitment should be buying something specific, a waived install or a build absorbed, not simply locking a rate. If a longer term is not paying for anything concrete, it is not a discount, it is a constraint.
Where it fitsWhat California buyers actually use it for
California companies reach for SD-WAN when they have more sites than a hub-and-spoke design handles gracefully, and when the cost of private circuits to each one stops being defensible.

Work out the total across the whole term, not the monthly. A lower rate on a five year deal that treats every bandwidth change as a fresh install can cost more than a shorter term that upgrades cleanly. Ask what year four looks like before you agree to reach it.
Pricing questionsCalifornia SD-WAN pricing, straight answers
Managed or self-managed?
It is the biggest lever in the deal. Managed buys you someone else holding the configuration, which is worth a lot with no network team and very little with one.
Where does the saving actually come from?
The underlay. Replacing private circuits with ordinary broadband is what moves the number, so the circuit bid matters as much as the platform bid.
How is SD-WAN priced in California?
Per site, usually as a licence plus an appliance, with the underlay circuits priced separately. Ask for both halves itemised or you cannot compare two quotes properly.
Does SD-WAN replace MPLS?
For most California buyers it does the same job on cheaper transport, and many run both during migration. Price the pair rather than assuming a clean swap.
